Slow pictures of a fast island.

I'm Jon Chiang, a photographer based in Singapore. Most of my work is made at the edges of the island - tidal flats, jetties, reclaimed coastline - in the hour either side of sunrise, when the water is still enough to hold the sky.

Alongside digital work I shoot 4×5 sheet film on a field camera, and develop at home. It is slower and more expensive per frame, which is mostly the point: it changes what you decide is worth photographing.

I also write equipment reviews and technical notes - filters, monitors, tripods, film development - from the perspective of someone who actually carries the gear into the field.
